When it comes to finding unique products, we pride ourselves on discovering the best — and most extraordinary — for our clients.  We’re also on the prowl for textures and qualities that are worth their investment. One such “find” is our Wild Ahimsa Silk quality.

These rugs are made from rare yarns and hand knotted in Nepal. As seen in these photos, the rugs are all available in naturally colored variations, with no dyes used. However, the fiber can also be dyed to suit one’s decorating needs for custom projects.

Ahimsa silk not only is beautiful, it also has a wonderful story. While most silk is reeled from cocoons that are boiled, killing the moth, Ahimsa silk is harvested from moths that are allowed to complete metamorphosis, hatch and breed.

This more humane treatment explains why Ahimsa silk is referred to as “the silk of peace.” In fact, before even the first thread is spun, each cocoon is individually checked to make sure the moth has escaped. The process is inspired by the Eastern beliefs in the principle of non-violence.

As lavish as any dress silk, this Ahimsa silk is discernibly heavier – the fiber that is used has a dense texture. But this is also what makes it exceptionally durable and a fabulous choice for any home. In addition, Ahimsa silk is uniquely thermal, so that underfoot it feels cool in the summer and warm in the winter. And, that’s part of the irresistible beauty of these rugs.
